Description
A classic layered chocolate cake filled with sweet cherry pie filling and whipped cream, perfect for celebrations.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 can (14 ounces) cherry pie filling
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- Dark chocolate shavings for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry mixture. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes, then stir in boiling water.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans, filling them about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Slice each cake in half horizontally for four layers.
- On a serving platter, place one layer, spread with cherry pie filling and followed by whipped cream.
- Repeat with the next layers, stacking them carefully.
- Top with the last layer, spread remaining whipped cream on the cake.
- Garnish with dark chocolate shavings and refrigerate until serving.
Notes
You can bake the cake layers a day in advance. For a twist, add a splash of cherry liqueur to the layers.
