Description

Delicious, fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with sweet-tart cherries and aromatic cinnamon, topped with a creamy icing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh or canned cherries, pitted and chopped
  • 1/2 cup cherry preserves
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt together until combined. In a saucepan, gently heat the milk and melted butter until warm (not hot), and pour it into the flour mixture. Add the egg and stir until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, roughly 1 hour.
  3. Preheat the Oven: While the dough rises, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle. Evenly spread the cherry preserves over the dough, followed by the chopped cherries and cinnamon. Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into rolls.
  5. Second Rise: Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish, cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
  6. Bake the Rolls: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Prepare the Icing: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the icing generously over the top.

Notes

Make-Ahead: Prepare the dough in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking. You can also use dried cherries instead of fresh.
