Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole chicken (about 3–4 lbs)
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1/2 teaspoon salt (for dumplings)

- Add the melted butter and milk to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling batter into the simmering broth.
- Cover the pot and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
- Add the shredded chicken back into the pot and stir gently to combine.
- Serve hot and enjoy your cozy meal!
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add herbs like parsley or bay leaves to the broth.
- Feel free to add other vegetables like peas or corn for added nutrition.
- This dish can be made ahead of time and reheated, but the dumplings are best fresh.
