Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup chopped almonds
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped almonds.
  8. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans.

  10. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, layer the cakes with caramel sauce between each layer and on top.
