Description

Delightful crispy mini bloomin’ onions served with a tangy buttermilk ranch dip, perfect for gatherings and snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 small onions
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (for dip)
  • Salt and pepper (for dip)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onions: Start by slicing off the top and bottom of each onion. Gently remove the center layers, carefully creating petal-like sections without breaking them. Immerse the onions in buttermilk, allowing them to soak for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Create the Coating: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Onions: After soaking, shake off excess buttermilk from the onions. Dredge each one in the flour mixture, ensuring every petal is well-coated.
  4. Fry the Onions: Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully drop the coated onions into the oil, frying until golden brown and crispy—about 4-5 minutes on each side.
  5. Make the Ranch Dip: In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, fresh dill, chives, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  6. Serve: Present your crispy mini bloomin’ onions warm with the buttermilk ranch dip on the side.

Notes

You can prepare the onions and soak them in buttermilk the night before to save time.
