Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb chicken breast or thigh strips
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili garlic sauce
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
- 1 small red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small green bell pepper, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds or cashews
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chicken strips, soy sauce, egg, cornstarch, and all-purpose flour. Mix until the chicken gets a nice coating. Cover and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
- Fry the chicken: Heat oil in your frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken in batches and fry until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Sauté aromatics: In another pan, heat oil and add minced garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant.
- Cook vegetables: Toss in sliced bell peppers and cook until they soften but retain crunch.
- Add the sauce: Stir in chili garlic sauce, ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and red chili flakes. Simmer to create a sauce.
- Combine chicken with sauce: Add the fried chicken and toss to coat. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish and serve: Top with green onions and sesame seeds or crushed cashews. Serve immediately.
Notes
You can marinate the chicken up to 24 hours in advance. To make it healthier, consider using an air fryer.
