Description

A comforting and aromatic slow-cooked Indian beef curry that envelops tender beef in a rich blend of spices, perfect for cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon Oil or Ghee
  • 1000 grams Chuck or Braising Steak
  • 1 cup Onions, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, chopped
  • 2 cm Fresh Ginger, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground Turmeric
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Coriander
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground Cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 3 cm Cinnamon Stick
  • 1 piece Dried Bay Leaf
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Cilantro (Plus more for garnish)
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Once shimmering, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  2. Stir in the garlic and ginger, cooking until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add the chuck or braising steak to the skillet. Brown on all sides.
  4. Sprinkle in the ground turmeric, coriander, garam masala, cumin, and red chili powder. Stir to coat the meat and onion mixture.
  5. Transfer the beef mixture into the slow cooker. Pour in beef broth and water, adding the cinnamon stick and bay leaf.
  6. Season with salt according to taste. Cover and set to low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-6 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.
  7. Before serving, discard the cinnamon stick and bay leaf. Stir in chopped cilantro and garnish with more cilantro.

Notes

For a creamier sauce, stir in a splash of coconut milk or yogurt just before serving. Ensure you don’t overcrowd the slow cooker for even cooking.
