- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
- 1 cup pepperoni slices
- 2 cups chunky tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- Whisk together flour, cornmeal, salt, and Italian seasoning in a large bowl. Stir in melted butter and yeast mixture until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out the dough and press it into a greased cast iron skillet, pushing it up the sides.
- Layer mozzarella cheese across the base, followed by crumbled sausage and pepperoni slices.
- Pour chunky tomato sauce over the toppings and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and aromatic.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes, slice, and serve hot.
Notes
Make-ahead tip: Prepare the dough a day in advance and refrigerate overnight. You can also use an air fryer for a quicker cooking method.
