Description

A delightful twist on a classic grilled cheese, featuring crispy beef bacon, sharp cheddar, and tart Granny Smith apples, drizzled with hot honey for a perfect balance of flavors.


Ingredients

  • 8 slices artisan bread (sourdough recommended)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 slices thick-cut beef bacon
  • 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated or thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons hot honey
  • Pinch flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. If making hot honey, combine ½ cup honey and 1-2 tablespoons of red pepper flakes. Heat gently for 5-7 minutes, let steep, then strain.
  2. Cook beef bacon in a skillet until crispy, about 8-12 minutes. Drain and break into pieces.
  3. Prepare apple by washing, coring, and slicing thinly. Grate or slice cheddar cheese.
  4. Assemble sandwiches: Butter one side of each bread slice, layer cheese, apple, bacon, and hot honey on unbuttered sides, then top with remaining cheese and buttered bread.
  5. Grill sandwiches in a heated skillet with bacon fat or butter for 4-6 minutes each side until golden and melty.
  6. Cut sandwiches diagonally, serve warm with optional hot honey drizzle and sea salt.
