Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into squares or circles.
