Description
A delightful pie filled with rich flavors and a flaky crust, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 homemade or store-bought pie crust
- 2 cups fruit (apples or berries)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp cornstarch or flour
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: In a bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbs form. Gradually add ice-cold water until dough holds together. Wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit your pie dish, about 1/8 inch thick. Place it in the dish and trim excess.
- Prepare the filling: In a bowl, mix your fruit with sugar, spices, and a thickener like cornstarch. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
- Fill the pie: Spoon the filling into your crust, arranging the fruit beautifully.
- Top it off: Roll out and cut your top crust, placing it over the filling. Cut slits for steam to escape and brush the top with egg wash.
- Bake: Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes. Reduce to 350°F (175°C) for an additional 25-30 minutes until filling bubbles and crust is golden brown.
- Cool for at least 2 hours before serving warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Make ahead by preparing crust and filling the night before. Store separately in the refrigerator.
