- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter, chilled and diced
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 lb minced meat (lamb or beef)
- 1 onion, finely chopped

- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a bowl, mix the flour and butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add cold water gradually and knead to form a dough. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- In a skillet, sauté the onion until translucent, then add the minced meat and cook until browned.
- Season the meat mixture with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Allow to cool.
- Roll out the dough and cut into circles to form the base and lid of the pies.
- Place the meat mixture in the center of each base, cover with the lid, and seal the edges.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add herbs like thyme or rosemary to the meat mixture.
- Scotch pies can be served hot or cold.
