- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- Edible black gel food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean mixing bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy.
- Add the cream of tartar and continue to beat until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while beating until stiff peaks form.
- Mix in the vanilla and almond extracts.
- Divide the meringue into two bowls; leave one white and color the other with black gel food coloring.
- Using a piping bag, pipe the meringue into bone shapes on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until the meringues are dry and can easily lift off the parchment.
- Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely inside.
- Once cooled, serve and enjoy your spooky treats!
