Description

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • Food coloring (various colors)
  • Sprinkles and edible decorations

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer, then pour it over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
  9. Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of ganache on top.
  10. Place the second layer on top and pour the remaining ganache over the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  11. Decorate with food coloring, sprinkles, and any other edible decorations you desire.
