Description
Delightful blueberry rolls filled with creamy cheesecake goodness, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or canned)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Stir gently and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes bubbly and fragrant.
- Add the melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg to the yeast mixture. Mix well until thoroughly combined.
- Whisk together the flour and salt in a separate large bowl, then gradually incorporate the milk mixture, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Dust your work surface with flour and knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow it to rise for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Whip together the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar in another bowl until it becomes smooth and creamy.
- Roll out the risen dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Then sprinkle with blueberries.
- Roll the dough tightly away from you, forming a log. Slice it into rolls, about 1-2 inches thick.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, allowing a little space between each, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush the risen rolls with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, then let them cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
For make-ahead, prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate after the first rise. Milk should be warm but not hot to activate yeast properly.
