Description

A comfort food classic, this homemade meat lasagna features layers of savory beef, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jar (24 oz) premium marinara or pasta sauce
  • 1 container (15 oz) ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Finely chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using traditional lasagna noodles, boil them in salted water until al dente, about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Drain the noodles and lay flat on wax paper to prevent sticking.
  3. Brown the ground beef and minced garlic in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring regularly.
  4. Drain any excess fat and mix in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 5 minutes, then season with salt and pepper.
  5. Combine the ricotta cheese, egg, half of the Parmesan cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella, and 2 tablespoons of parsley in a medium bowl until smooth.
  6. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce in a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer 3 to 4 noodles over it, then 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, followed by 1/3 of the remaining meat sauce and a handful of mozzarella. Repeat this layering twice more.
  7. Top with the remaining meat sauce and sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil (spray the underside with cooking spray) and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve.

Notes

Make-ahead by assembling the lasagna a day in advance. Consider using an air fryer for a faster option.
