Description

Delight in these crispy onion rings, perfect for summer fairs, picnics, or as a delicious side to your favorite meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions into thick rings about 1/2 inch in size and separate them into a bowl.
  2. Prepare the flour mixture by whisking together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl.
  3. Make the buttermilk mixture by beating the egg and mixing it with buttermilk until combined.
  4. Dip each onion ring in the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture.
  5. Double coat the onion rings by dipping them back into the buttermilk and then into the breadcrumbs.
  6. Heat oil in a frying pan to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Fry the coated onion rings in small batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Drain the rings on paper towels and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a healthier option, try baking the rings at 425°F (220°C) for 20-25 minutes.
