Description
Delightful homemade orange rolls with a sweet glaze, perfect for brunch or cozy mornings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
- Zest of 1 orange (for glaze)
Instructions
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl until combined.
- Add the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and orange zest to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle, about ¼ inch thick. Spread softened butter generously over the surface.
- Mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough.
- Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seams to seal, then slice into 1-inch pieces.
- Arrange the rolls in a greased baking pan, leaving space for them to expand. Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, fresh orange juice, and additional zest until smooth. Drizzle over the warm rolls as soon as they exit the oven.
Notes
Allow the rolls to cool slightly before glazing for better icing set.
