Ingredients

  • 12 Lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 Onions, diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 oz Canned tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp Fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Fresh oregano, chopped
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil, for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Brown the meat: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef, onions, and garlic. Sauté until browned and onions are translucent.
  2. Prepare the sauce: Incorporate canned tomatoes and herbs into the skillet. Mix well and let simmer for about 15 minutes until thickened.
  3. Mix the cheese: In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, and a handful of grated parmesan. Season with salt and pepper; mix until creamy.
  4. Layer the ingredients: In a greased baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce, followed by noodles, ricotta mixture, and more meat sauce. Repeat layers and finish with mozzarella.
  5. Bake: In a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C), bake for 30-35 minutes until top is golden. Cover with foil for first 20 minutes.
  6. Rest before serving: Allow lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before slicing for best results.
