Instructions
- Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely diced onion and sauté until soft and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks until browned. Incorporate the tomato passata, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and season with salt and pepper. Let this delicious mixture simmer for 30 minutes.
- Make the Béchamel Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, then whisk in the flour, cooking for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. Gradually whisk in the whole milk, stirring continuously until thickened and smooth. Season with a pinch of nutmeg, salt, and pepper for flavor.
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Layer Your Lasagna: In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of lasagna sheets, then some béchamel. Repeat until you reach the top, finishing with béchamel.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan on top, and cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake: Place the lasagna in the oven and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
