Description

A comforting and flavorful Italian lasagna layered with meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot, casings removed)
  • 1 Large onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 28 oz Crushed tomatoes
  • 12 oz Tomato paste
  • 15 oz Tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp White sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp Dried basil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 box Lasagna noodles (1215 sheets)
  • 1 lb Shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • Extra fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and garlic to the meat, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, white sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 30 minutes.
  5. Combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, and parsley in a separate bowl.
  6. Spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a lasagna dish.
  7. Layer noodles over the sauce, then spread the cheese filling, ensuring it reaches the edges.
  8. Repeat the layers, finishing with noodles topped with remaining meat sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  9. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  11. Let the lasagna stand for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  12. Garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Make it ahead of time by preparing a day in advance and storing it in the fridge. Perfect for family gatherings and meal prep.
